Ellister Islay Highland Ponies Web Cam

For Broadband users only, please.
Dial-up connections will slow down our own use of the camera and may prevent us from seeing vital signs of imminent foaling - or any other eventuality.

The field camera can only be moved by Gilbert or me, so what you will see is where we have chosen to look.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm afraid it is very much up to chance whether we have the camera directed onto ponies.  If you can only see fields - or rain - then I apologise !  Please try again later - but look for the updates below the map.  The quality of the picture varies with broadband strength; it is usually much better in the morning than evening time.

The camera can turn 180 degrees, although as it is mounted on a chimney, quite a portion to the east is obscured.  The map below shows the fields in range of the camera - up to just over a quarter of a mile in distance.  The sea is below the fields known as The Valley, the Sron and Top Cari.

WHO IS WHERE AT THE MOMENT:
29th July 2010
Due to Lady being due to foal so late in the year, ponies are having to be moved around more than usual.
We do try to give all ponies some hill or high area so they can get some breeze to help keep the flies away; with three entires at the Easter end of the farm it's been rather a challenge !
-----
Stallions and colts:
Forester is in Horse Field, Gillie in Corner Hill and Lordy in Grannies and the Forest.
Duncan and Pearl are in their 35 acre moorland at the other end of the farm for the summer, with Kim, a visiting mare, and Willow.
------
Breeze and Jester have been given a treat now the May/June grass is settling down and have been moved to Long Louira.  Update: they had escaped due to damn ramblers and got in with the mares and foals, upsetting Tiegan, but are now safely back in Long Louira.   Jester will act as uncle to the colt foals at a later stage.
------
2yos and yearlings with Aunty Spider are in Rattle so they are handy for the pens, for some handling.
------
Lady has just started to bag up and is expected to foal mid August. She and Tiegan are now in Mid Cari with Fiona (tested in foal to Forester) with Lady; all three will start on to some garlic cloves and other nutrients very soon.
------
Ceilidh and her foal Mariner, Bracken and Woodsman, Tamara and Juniper are in Louira-by-the-sea where there is a good breeze and plenty of space.    They are going to be started on small feeds very soon to start worming the foals.
------
Peggy, River and Rain are now in Foaling Fields eating some of the grass before Lady goes in there for foaling.  Peggy and River will get some hay and small feeds ready for their journeys to new homes.  Rain will be got ready for the local show !

The photo above shows the Lake circuit of about 40 acres - ponies have access to three fields and two paddocks, and travel the whole circuit at least once a day.

And this photo shows the Caris in the distance (with foaling field in the foreground) with a bit of the Rattle to the left - another big circuit of about 40 acres.

This is a good view of foaling field in the distance - it looks long and narrow from the camera, but is actually much wider.

"Just go and check the ponies please Gilbert !"

Above is Cnoc Undail where Duncan winters; a super 10 acres of grass and 60 acre hill.
